Farmers Edge (FE) has purchased the former Bodycote Testing Laboratory in Winnipeg and has re-opened it as Farmers Edge Laboratories. We recently held an Open House.

Farmers Edge Laboratories will focus on agriculture and is currently the soil testing facility in the Province of Manitoba that is locally owned. There has not been a locally owned ag soil testing facility in MB since the Manitoba Provincial Soil Test lab was purchased by Norwest Labs.

A key component in the success of FE’s variable rate (VR) fertility program has been soil testing. With the rapid growth of acres under their VR program FE realized a need for it’s own soil testing facility to centralize operations. Until now consultants had been sending samples as far as Ontario to 3 different labs to get analyzed. The Lab has been updated with new automated equipment to help streamline the process, decrease turn-around time and reduce chances of human error.  

Farmers Edge Laboratories will be adding manure analysis by spring of 2010 and look at adding tissue analysis in the future if there is a demand from the market.
